Photographing the Heart Behind the Fabric
I recently had the pleasure of photographing Denise Rae’s new Wild and Free collection. Working with Denise is always special—not just because of her beautiful designs, but because of the deeply personal story woven into every piece. After her mother passed away, Denise launched her loungewear line as a way to honor her memory. Her mother’s words, “I am strong. I am beautiful. I am enough,” live in the heart of her brand. I feel this connection deeply, having lost my own mother long ago. She, too, loved soft cotton fabrics and delicate prints, and every time I wear Denise’s pajamas, I feel her presence, as if she’s still here with me.
During our shoot, something truly unforgettable happened. We needed a second model at the last minute, and Denise’s daughter, Briana—who had just become a mother herself six months ago—came to the rescue. She arrived with her baby, Katherine, and it was incredible to witness three generations of women together. In that moment, I felt the presence of all the women who came before them, watching over, their legacies carried forward through love and strength.
Denise’s loungewear is more than just designs; it’s a tribute to resilience, connection, and the stories that live on through us. My own collection of her pjs has been worn and washed countless times, and yet the fabric and prints remain as vibrant as ever. I know my mother would have approved, just as I do.
